Ranks
Scout
Scouts are the pack's intruder alert system. They stay on the outskirts of pack territory and fend off danger to the best of their abilities. Scouts will usually be lean and swift and are typically smaller than wolves of any other rank. They report constantly to the alpha, and take turns with watch duty and patrols. They don't necessarily fight, but they should know basic fighting techniques and strategy.
-
Hunter
Hunters provide essential food for the pack. They require excellent teamwork skills, as they must work with other hunters to bring down large prey animals. Hunters are generally smaller than warriors, they are lithe and agile, whilst also posessing a hidden strength. The most crucial trait for a hunter is patience; a hunter without patience rarely brings home a kill. Hunters don't usually participate in skirmishes with other packs, however they would be obliged to fight for their pack if called upon by their Alpha and therefore require knowledge of fighting techiques and strategy. Wolves of other ranks may possess a fundamental ability to hunt, however they are liable to failure and injury.
-
Warrior
Warriors are the backbone of any pack, providing protection for their packmates and defending them against any prevalent threat. Most commonly, the wolves that become warriors are large and muscular, relying on their enormous strength to overpower the enemy. However, some warriors may also have a more lean physique, if they are able to utilise agility more than strength in their fighting techniques. Their time is spent perfecting their fighting technique and training, or occasionally participating in hunting parties, in which they can sometimes be more of a hindrance than a help, due to their general inexperience with hunting. If a skirmish or a battle breaks out, they must contribute.
-
Keeper
Usually older, these wolves are highly skilled in the art of herbalism. They are known best for their knowledge, and have great respect from the entire pack. Keepers host all pack ceremonies, and their blessing is required before a pair can be mated.
(This rank is earned, not chosen.)
-
Beta
The Beta pair take over whenever the Alphas are unable to take charge for any reason. They are typically quite sizeable and experienced in all areas of pack life. They may not be the best hunter or fighter, but they have solid leadership abilities and are able to motivate the pack in times of low morale. Betas must carry out the will of their Alpha. They hold authority over all other ranks, apart from the Alphas.
[This rank is earned, not chosen.]
-
Alpha
These wolves are strong both physically, and mentally. They are on most occasions quite large, and demand a great deal of respect from their pack. Alphas have full authority over every other rank.
(This rank is earned, not chosen.)
-
Cub
Cubs are any wolf under one year of age. In general, most cubs tend to be playful and curious. Their bodies aren't fully grown, so they appear lanky. They aren't as agile as they will be.
(These wolves must be adopted from the adoption center.)
These are the various ranks you can choose from in Wolf Valley. Each rank should be matched to your character based on size and overall ability.
The ranks Alpha, Beta, and Keeper have to be earned.
One must be a part of the forum for at least two months to be granted permission to tryout.
The Cub rank is reserved for litters.
The youngest your first character can be is one year. Any lower, and they won't be accepted.
If you are interested in having a pup for a character, check the adoptions thread. Pups can also be obtained through mating.
One character only, for now, please.

The Packs of Wolf Valley
Each wolf will need a pack. Choose from the list below. Don't worry, you'll be able to switch later in the roleplay, but depending on who you switch to from where, you could be considered a traitor.

Heavenheld (Helds)
The Heavenheld live on the highest mountain in the northwestern mountain chain, Clarity Peak. The Helds are excellent climbers. They are descended from the hardiest of wolves, those possessing the most stamina, and thus have developed the ability to survive in the harshest of temperatures. They only come down to hunt, since the arctic hares that roam the mountains are few and far between. Their fur is much thicker than the other wolves and their body temperature rests at 114 degrees Fahrenheit. This pack is passive, usually refusing to fight. They are very obedient to their alpha and, whilst defensive, not usually very hostile to other wolves.
Deepwood (Shriners)
The Deepwood live in the southeastern region of Wolf Valley, Sacred Grove. These wolves prefer night to day, as the heart of Sacred Grove remains illuminated by the glow of various plants. They look to the Deepwood Shrine* for advice and leadership. Since wolves are the only known animal to live in Sacred Grove, they turn to the banks of Gray Lake for food. This pack follows direction of Deepwood Shrine as given by the pack's alpha. These wolves are fiercely loyal to their pack and are generally tenacious, but warm-hearted. Most Shriners have good intentions at heart.
*Deepwood Shrine: Deepwood Shrine is a stone structure of unknown origin. It's cloaked in moss and vines. It resembles the head of a dire wolf. Its mouth is open, leading to an alter. The eyes are made of a yellow-glowing stone. Only keepers and pack alphas are granted access to enter.
-Frostwind (Frosters)
The Frostwind dwell in the southwestern region of Wolf Valley, Frozen Forest. These wolves have keen minds and sharp tongues. They are magnificent hunters, having plenty of practice with tough game. Their teeth are much sharper and longer for grabbing fast prey with great force. Their stomachs are made to conserve food, letting them survive for long periods without eating. They refuse to ingest anything that is not from their territory, they depend on Frozen Forest, and the Forest alone. Frosters are an aggressive pack. They despise the Helds for their friendly nature. Fighting is a big part in this pack's culture. From the early age of two months, these wolves are raised to be fierce warriors. They obey orders from the alpha without fail, and protect pack members with their life.
-The Gray
And lastly, The Gray. Not much is known about The Gray. They reside in the northeastern region of Wolf Valley, Sky Hills. They were the first of the four. They are the owners of Gray Lake, and the island in its center, Gray Isle. They tend to keep to themselves and are hostile to all other packs.
