Sacred Grove
Sacred Grove achieved its name from the spirits rumored to live there. Supposedly at night, ghosts of the fallen roam in search of the gates to the afterlife. The forest is full of various fungi and tree types. Gnarled roots are painted deep green with thick moss, and fronds of ferns cover the ground in its entirety. The climate remains humid and above seventy degrees Fahrenheit at all times. In the center of the forest, there is an old stone shrine. It is said to take the shape of a dire wolf's head. The elders of the Deepwood pack claim that it is the gate that leads to the afterlife.

Female - Ξ Shard Ξ - Warrior A she-wolf lay silent, serene, her ashen flank rising and falling steadily with slumber. The creature was huddled amongst tree roots, they encased her, as if they were the arms of a mother, cuddling her newborn baby for the very first time. As the horizon swallowed the sun and the very last streaks of light were consumed by darkness in the sky, the wolf began to stir. Gradually, at first, then very swiftly. With all the majesty of a great lion, Shard raised her head and shook it steadily, the dense fur covering her nape rippling as she did so. A tiny yawn escaped from her parted lips and her eyes flickered open abruptly. "Hmph." She grumbled, blinking gingerly as she took in her surroundings. Noticing that she was the first to awaken, she lifted her muzzle into the air and took a deep breath. All the musty, familiar scents of the forest rushed to her, swirling in the back of her nasal cavity, and she let out a small sigh of contentment. "Good evening." Shard murmured to herself placidly. His favorite time, late twilight. The ground was painted in orange-gold hues, and chirping of crickets could be heard deeper into the ancient maze of trees. He'd only just awoken from his nape when he decided to return to the depths of the forest. It was dangerous to be outside of pack territory alone during the night hours, even for a wolf. Nighttime walks in Sacred Grove had and will always frighten him. He'd seen the spirits on multiple occasions, and every time, they were never too friendly. They didn't ever do anything, just stare with empty eyes. One of the times he recounted the most was when he saw two human children. They stood side-by-side, a male and a female. Shade stood statue still as they stared at him blankly. They vanished when a loud shriek broke the dead silence. Shade bolted, both scared of the spirits, and the unknown screech. It had been some time since this encounter, but the thought still stuck in Shade's mind. As he walked, he took in the beauty of his home. Gnarled tree roots with various fungi provided a striking color scheme. The sun only enhanced the extravagance.
The ruined later became visible, and scents of his packmates filled the air. Night had taken the sky, and fireflies dotted the darkness. Aside from them, he only light was the luminance provided by the glowing plants and the bright, almost-full moon. He was startled a tad when a familiar voice made itself audible. "Ahh, good evening, Shard. Did you sleep well?"

Female - Ξ Shard Ξ - Warrior The she-wolf lay in quiet contemplation. The bracing wind tugged tenderly at her smoky pelt and a low sigh of contentment passed between her rows of ivory canines, arranged precisely in her jowls. Shard took much pleasure in her interactions with her packmates, that was indisputable. However, she savoured moments like these, in which she could mull over her troubles in relative tranquility, with the delicate caress of the breeze as her only companion. The next gust of wind that snaked its way amongst the tree trunks brought with it the far-off rustling of leaves. Intrigued, a densely furred ear pivoted in the direction of the sound, listening intently; disturbances in the undergrowth; thuds against the compact ground; footfalls. Trepidation crept into the pit of the fae's stomach and her broad head swivelled around, her intense, glaucous gaze scanning the treeline for the origin of the sound. Her pelt rippled in a wave as her muscles tensed with anticipation. Yet, before her alarm could further accumulate, she recognised the familiar form of her alpha, Shade. Relieved, and somewhat embarrassed, she gradually released a breath that she wasn't aware that she had been holding. All that over a couple of crinkling leaves! What's wrong with me this evening? Hoping dearly that he hadn't noticed how unsettled she'd been, she replied nonchalantly to his polite greeting. "As well as usual." The she-wolf offered not much else in this regard. Truthfully, she never slept well, her dreams always haunted by memories of the wolf who had once maimed her terribly and left her to die. Shard physically winced at the memory. "Pleasant walk?" Shard queried, as if nothing had happened. She rose onto her paws as she spoke, with effortless grace fitting of a snow leopard.

The quiet wolf trotted through the Sacred Grove, wagging his tail silently. He swept forward confidently, his ears pressed forward quietly. He was listening silently for anything.
A large bug flew past his nose, and he snapped at it quickly. He caught its fat body between his sharp teeth and crunched it up. Bugs didn't fill him up, but they sure were tasty!
He eventually yawned and settled down under a tree, listening to the unclear, faint voices of wolves in the distance.

"Hmm, well, sleep is sleep, good or bad. And yes, its always good to have some alone time. You can learn a bit about yourself." Shade looked around at the darkening group of trees. Almost every bit of twilight sun had dissapeared into the unknown world above, just like it always did. Just now, he felt hunger stir inside of him. He knew they would have no luck hunting in the grove, so he opted to gather his pack and head northwest to the lake. They'd be sure to find a rabbit or two. "Stay here, I'll go get Lagu. I'm starving, and I'm sure prey animals are stirring at this time." Shade bowed, then ventured off, following the scent of another Shriner warrior, Lagu. He quickly found him not far from the alter. "Come on Lagu, we're going hunting. Meet me by the alter when you're ready to leave. Don't make me wait too long." Shade returned to the stone monument and sat by its mouth.

Female - Ξ Shard Ξ - Warrior Shard dipped her broad head slightly as the alpha spoke, her bright eyes examining him with a scrutinising stare. Gazing at his pelt, the subtle movement of his sooty flank as he breathed and admiring the way the dim lights of the illuminated grove reflected splendidly in his verdant irises. As Shade moved to retrieve Lagu, the she-wolf drew in a lungful of frosty air and breathed it out steadily, watching it crystallise before her moist nose. Feeling rather light-hearted, she padded gingerly over to the rocky shrine, her gait like that of an inquisitive doe. The fae momentarily pressed her snout against the ancient stone, blinking slowly as the earthy fragrance filled her nostrils. Admittedly, the wolf had had difficulties perceiving the spiritual aspect of the woodland. But she could feel it in that moment, permeating through the rock, pouring from the tip of her nose, into her frigid limbs and warming her soul. It occurred to the young wolf that, perhaps, as she was haunted by morbid memories in slumber, her packmates were haunted by ghosts in wakefulness. Slipping back from her thoughts, her attention shifted to the wolf beside her and she wondered fleetingly what burden was on his mind. Suppressing anything that might seem intrusive, she asked instead, "Where will we be hunting?" Her tone was warm and she peered at him with bright, inquisitive eyes. However, her mind wandered once more as she pondered the silence of the surrounding trees. The silence disturbed her sometimes, it made her feel, in a peculiar way, both mighty and insignificant. But it mostly evoked a feeling of sheer isolation, a constant reminder that she and her packmates were the only beings with a heartbeat for miles. "Shade," she began, suddenly, with an ounce of hesitation, but a fierce curiosity burning at the back of her mind, "why do the other creatures not tread here?" Wolves Mentioned: Shade, Lagu. The ashy gray wolf looked up curiously, pale green eyes bright. The silent forest was only disturbed as a weak branch was snapped by the wind, and it quickly plummeted to the earthy forest floor with a rustle of the leaves. Instinctually he turned slightly toward it, as the sound felt loud in the former silence. But as the branches fell still, so too did his nerves.
"Yes, Shade." He said quietly, standing up and hastily following the leader of his Pack. What would they be hunting today?...

With an rush of energy, Zenna raced towards an fox, which somehow managed to sneak up on her and steal the last remaining bit of meat she was eating. "GET BACK HERE!" she howled in rage, jumping over roots of trees and avoiding stumps. But her luck ran out, the fox disappeared and when she made an sharp right turn, she slipped on the foliage below her paws and fell heavily, scattering leaves and dirt. After just laying there, trying to catch her breath after awhile, she heard voices nearby and perked her ears. Whomever they are, they could see her in this ridiculous position any second. She got up really fast, stumbling on her paws but not falling over again as she made her way to the wolves.

Shade took in his surroundings one more, enjoying the scents that filled his mind with happy thoughts, the scene of beautiful moss covered stones, large red-barked trees, and the almost dead silence only interrupted by the constant sound of a rustling breeze. Two wolves trailed him, one less quiet than the other. Shard, he could tell by her feminine voice. She spoke his name, as if she were going to state a question. "Hmm?" He replied. The question she asked often tugged at his mind. He was not sure of an answer, but knew it had something to do with the stone face in the grove's center. "I'm not sure, exactly.. My best guess is that the spirits here fend them off...I say fend, but I think I meant scare.." Just as he finished, Zenna, one of their scouts came barreling through the twisted and gnarled vines that surrounded them. Shade stared sternly at her, confusion visible in his complexion. "Zenna..? Why were you chasing that ghost?" The transparent fox-like spirit whisped away when it hit a tree, leaving the white wolf chasing empty space. "Come with us to Gray Lake, we're going to chase real food. It'd be a good time to swim, too, if anyone would like. I'm sure the water is just right being that this spring weather started setting in." As the group made it further into her outskirts of the wood, various bugs could be heard. The soft and sparatic croaking of various species of frogs added a glorious, almost dream-like effect to the scene. A lough Shade loved his home deep in the grove, often times it felt empty. Lifeless. Finally, the lake could be seen, reflecting the beautiful nighttime sky in the placid ripples. A sweet aroma, that of wildflowers and lilies, took the air--a large contrast between what he'd been smelling for the past few hours. "Alright, what do you guys want to do first?"

She walked in quiet trying not to step on leaves or twigs. she got closer to the territory as she walked when she met with a log she climbed over it to see the green Ora once again. she assumed she was walking the right way so she kept walking. she came to the smell of wolves in the distance she ran over to the smell to find the pack of Deepwood. " Hello any wolf here I could speak too? " she said quietly " HELLO!" the she yelled. " well she guessed this isn't it either as she started to walk off.

The low fog began to swallow her legs, leaving an eerie cold to seep into her muscles. Droplets of water, which had clung to the forest floor, attached themselves to her coat. Her neck seemed to have extended several inches into the chilling air, her ears following suit. They swiveled atop her cranium capturing any sounds that may reach her. The wet air slid into her lungs and through her system, setting her nostrils on edge. She felt as if her air supply was slowly being replaced with water which will fill her lungs. Her paws felt nailed to the forest floor as she observed her surroundings. Her muscles rippled under her cream laden coat, braced for either fight or flight.
A soft groan of old wood caused every nerve within her to scream. She whirled toward the direction of her nonexistent attacker, lips pulled to loose the low rumble which built in her chest. When nothing came forward she willed her fur to lay flat once more. "Damned trees." She murmured, the trees being the only beings to hear her, or so she hoped.
True, this was her home, but it still unnerved her. Even if it wasn't possible for other beings to reside here, she never knew when her monsters would finally catch up to her. This eery place the shadows resided in was always quieted by the companions Telkis called family. Their familiar smells and sounds were as a blanket is to a weeping babe. She could only hope they would return soon.

Consciousness began to fill the white wolf at a leisurely pace, also awakening his senses. Soon, he could enjoy the small amount of weight that pressed into the shaggy fur along his back, only able to assume that it was Shade's paw back there. Even whilst he was still mildly caught within his mind's lucid transparency, West still felt the wondrous back rubs he was given. It brought quite a bit of warmth to his heart, actually. To think that Shade could care so deeply for him that it'd being rise to a whole new side of the black wolf. Once regaining his sight, the white wolf analyzed the handsome mutt looming over him, giving a quiet snicker at the sight of what little redness he could make out on the ebon male's face. Of course, seeing this completely gave away what he'd been doing in his sleep, which in turn could have very well spoken of his dreams. Those very thoughts caused West to acquire the same sort of redness, though, it was much more distinguishable upon his pallid expression.
A massive smile snuck along West's lips at the energetic greeting returned to him by his husky lover. It was so hard not to fall for Shade over and over again, and, quite frankly, he didn't want it to stop. He'd fall for the black mutt over and over again, until his earthly days would run out. The white wolf readied himself to respond as well, however, a very welcomed, and very wet kiss interrupted him. He didn't mind one bit, and, in fact, he returned it with a great amount of enthusiasm. What Shade spoke next caused happiness to consume him, and, in return, the pallid barker's forelimbs extended upwards and coiled gently around the sable tail-wagger's neck. "I'm glad to hear that! Especially since I do not plan on sleeping alone again for a long, long while." While answering, West began to delicately pull Shade's face toward his neck, hoping that he could cheese a bit and hide his own blush. "As for my dreams, they were.. Very satisfying, for us both... Well.. In there, anyways.." The white wolf answered sheepishly, ears pivoting a tad to show the bit of embarrassment that struck him. "What've you got planned for today, my love?" He then spoke once more, calmly, lovingly brushing his muzzle against the top of his mate's head, grooming where he seen it fit to do so.
