Satisfied to have been greeted so warmly by those he held close, West's heart trembled ever-so-gently. See, he was quite odd in the sense that even the slightest of things would impact him so greatly. Even though he'd gone off on his own without any warning whatsoever, his dear pack-mates understood, and would not scorn him for such a thing. "Any other wolves?" He then murmured curiously, setting aside a brief moment so that he may have taken a look behind him. "No, actually, when I was out there I could've sworn it was just me." The colorless canine added, a brow quirked in suspicion. Truthfully, West really hadn't sensed the presence of any other potential threats in the area whilst out on his little walk. A few moments of silence and a slightly disdained expression that now annexed his complexion told of West's mental reprimanding towards himself. How could he, their beta, not have been aware enough to take notice of anything like that? It was his duty, and it wasn't something that Shade would've been proud of him for. The thin pointed flaps that adorned this tail-wagger's skull were then laid back and pinned against his head, which also sunk down a bit. "My apologies. Shall I go back?" He asked, seeking an opportunity to right his wrong.
Despite the lousy feeling that had overcome him, the large wolf instantly lit up when the hot appendage that took residence within Shade's muzzle was pulled along his facial features. He could only picture what his face then looked like. His cheek would've been forced towards the eye above, causing it to squint, while just a single portion of his lips were tugged in the same way. It was actually pretty amusing. However, what came next brought about an even cozier sensation. Instead of the disappointed look he anticipated, West received quite the silly grin from his large raven of a friend. The smile that then worked it's way onto West's expression refused to submit to his attempts at suppression, and now laid there to be seen by the world. "It is quite nice, isn't it?" He echoed, then turned his gaze towards the darkening sky where lavender streaks of twilight began to roll in and cascade down along the mountainsides, creating a sight that could've lead one to believe that the sky itself had been fed to the similarly-covered lake below, stars and all. West then shook himself from the beautiful sight, returning his gaze to the two before him. He hadn't repaid Shade for the lick that brought a certain warmth to his pelt yet, had he? Well, doing so, the large ivory coated male stepped forward, and his tongue fell free from the wet cavern it took residence within. It was then pulled along their alpha's face in the same manner, before having been retracted. Of course, West wouldn't dare leave out their other friend, Shard. He drew closer to the female, positioning himself so that the sides of their necks had been aligned, and leaned against hers for a brief moment, as if providing a hug.
Upon pulling away from the female, West's gaze had been averted back towards Shade, and now a more comical expression rested upon it, though, what he spoke on afterwards was meant to be taken seriously. "When we return home, I'll help you with those bugs, I remember a few things that I've learned in the past to deal with the little pests." He commented with a light nod, and his once-silly smirk had shifted, becoming a genuine smile. After all was said, West then took a seat beside his ebon friend, plopping onto his rear. "So, what have you lot got planned?" West inquired, shifting his gaze between Shade and Shard, who seemed to be the only two interested in making conversation at the moment.

Onward she walked so absorbed in her own lucid thoughts, that all the commotion going on among her was simply muted music to her ears. When she allowed mind to wander, her physical and mental actions became secluded from the rest. As if some other common force was the one operating her body, not her actual mind. Strolling on through out the thicket her pale yellow eyes focused on a plump bodied fowl, the movement of the pudgy feathered game brought back Hiraeht's common sense that she had so sheepishly lost. Hissing from under her breathe a rage of acrimony swept through her eyes like a burning sensation of hatred for the world. Snarling in savage rage she plummeted forward, challenging the guiltless bird with her bared ivories. Shock swept through the bird as it couldn't seem to open its wings fast enough to escape from the rabid like animal that charged forward. Within seconds her jowls clamped down onto thin air and the only thing left of the bird where a few plucked tail feathers, and some other smaller feathers from it's flee of distress. A smirk smeared across her muzzle as irritation littered her face and her travels just became more executing against all the other odds of the day. Pressing onward a dissatisfying emptiness hung deep in her gut as the glimmer of clear water danced between the treeline ahead. Suddenly her irritable mood turned into a spur of curiosity as her nose picked up faint scent of other wolves. This could mean one of two things, and either way trouble was on its way.

The kiss that his blank coated friend placed on his cheek sent warmth throughout his entire body, starting from his ears and radiating to the base of his paws' pads. He smiled brightly with closed eyes, then watched as he greeted Shard. Something about the way West said hello was magnificent, and awkward, but not in a bad way. Another minute passed, filled with numerous itches bestowed upon Shade by the little black bugs. He would be so happy to rid himself of them, so naturally, the white beta's proposition thrilled him. "Oh, that would be fantabulous. Hopefully we won't have to do anything though, provided the Grove continues to expel foreign creatures." As he spoke, he caught himself focusing intently on West's forepaw. He couldn't explain why, so he assumed lack of sleep had gotten the better of him, and his body was trying to shut down for sleep. Halfway through the sentence is when he noticed, so he slowly brought his gaze to meet with the amber chasms of the other.
"Well, there isn't really a plan, so to speak. More so a suggested string of events. We were going to hunt for a while, or until we catch something, then eat our fill. The water seems nice, so I might hop in for a swim. Anyone wanting to join me should feel free to do so. Assuming we do catch something, we'll need to wash up. I can't have blood matting my beautiful coat." He winked at West, then turned to Shard. "Are you ready? I'm about to digest myself if I don't get food, so let's make this quick." Just then, the scent returned. Maybe not the same scent, but a similar one. "Hmm...that's definitely not one of our own.. You two stay close. Let's go back to the others."

As the pallid wolf pressed the furred curve of his neck against hers, the tiniest smirk plastered itself onto Shard's muzzle and a brief contentment resonated beneath the she-wolf's ashen pelt. However, once her pack mate pulled away the warmth and comfort, that his embrace had provided her, dissipated and a paranoia overcame her once more. Completely oblivious to the subtle exchange occurring between her superiors, she threw a suspicious glance over her shoulder. Her gleaming eyes narrowed to slits and she could have sworn she could just distinguish the silhouette of a canine, shrouded amongst the trees. The figure had both perturbed her and caused her to experience an abrupt blaze of tenacity. Shard kneaded the compact ground with her immense paws and it gave way slightly beneath her weight.
The tone of her alpha yanked her from her reverie, causing her to start slightly in shock. Now her steely determination returned and she responded gently, "Yes, we'd better start moving." Shard wavered a moment as Shade's voice once more penetrated the mild air. The stench of foreign wolves filled her own senses, however it no longer perplexed her, instead her tenacity rose further and she remarked with relentless determination, "Pay them no mind, for the time being. If they present themselves as a threat to us, if they harm any one of us, then I swear by the moon that they will never again appreciate the warmth of the sun on their backs." There was a stubborn piety in the she-wolf's resolve, and in that moment she was both endearing, for her fervent obedience to her pack mates, and sufficiently terrifying.
Having spoken, the mind of the she-wolf turned to the task at hand, hunting. Admittedly, she had never been the most refined hunter. But she figured that the resounding thud of a fresh carcass dropping to the earth, and the subsequent tempting fragrance of their kill, would lure out any wolves that lurked in the shade of overhanging branches, veiled in the ebon blanket of the night. An unexpected breeze rolled off of the gloomy water, it was mild and tousled Shard's pelt in a rather pleasant manner. As the she-wolf strained her ears to listen, she noticed that it carried with it the distant trampling of hooves and, more obviously, the musky scent of some cervidae.

☆ OOC: The wolf that Shard sees could be anyone's character or, if nobody wants to be seen yet, it could just be a figment of her imagination due to paranoia.

The sound of speech hummed to the sound of the silent brush like a lovely strum from a guitar, her ears swiveled backwards as the sound of the un-known wolves made synced with her more alert senses. You see, Hiraeth holds two sides, the this is reality side- you don't run this universe- and the other head strong side that just doesn't know what flight before fight is.. And this particular moment triggered her more this is reality senses. Her nose twitched at their stench as is stung her nasal cavities, the thin coated fea's cranium scanned the vast horizon as her dim yellow eyes searched for any movement that could possibly pin point these strangers location.. Of course all else always failed and her vision couldn't be relied on, to this day the smoke of a horrid child-hood could still be blamed. With the flick of a tail Hiraeth crouched to the ground, still proceeding onward, drawing nearer to the clear water. If these strange wolves decided to call upon a stealthy attack, maybe she would be able use the water to her up-most advantage.. But then again, these where probably wolves that had claimed the area around the water as their territory... Meaning the water could possibly be her biggest downfall here, attempting to swim in open waters could be calling upon another death wish that her guardian spirit just wouldn't be able to pull her through this time. Freezing, ridged with un-tamed fear a flick of that fretful irritation carved deeper into her mind, sending a frenzy of wild thought processes swirling among-st her mind. Ugh, this was the bitter end of her desire to escape, the water wasn't on the losing teams side this time. Grumbling for her own mercy, Hiraeth twirled around on her haunches and sat like a noble queen with her chest poked out. If these flaunting strangers dared show there presence in the foliage, Hiraeth deemed to look as innocent as possible...

The achromatic barker was completely aware of what kind of feelings were stirred within the bodies of his fellow pack mates. Actually, it was because of this knowledge that he continued to greet them in such a way, looking to comfort them in any way he could. Although, there was also something about the exchanges between he and their sable alpha. Of course, their longtime friendship played quite a big role in their closeness, but he couldn't help but feel that there was just a bit more to them than that; friendship. The amber orbs embedded into West's complexion lingered upon the emerald chasms belonging to Shade, and he became lost for a moment when everything had gone silent. Then, the beast of a canine's voice permeated the barrier of silence that had briefly fallen upon the three of them, and West was shaken from his thoughts. He was quite interested in the conversation between Shard and Shade, though, he kept his thoughts to himself.
A loud growl rumbled within the ivory hound's displeased gut, just as the ebon barker spoke of hunting game. One of his forepaws was lifted, and then placed upon his grumbling belly, and he looked to the two canines in his midst. "Food sounds quite amazing right now, since I'm pretty starved if you couldn't tell by my stomach." He responded, then, the thin pointed flaps that were made to dress the crown of his skull stood tall. It clearly portrayed his interest in taking a swim with Shade, or, was it the thought of being warmed by the touch of a certain alpha? Either way, he was excite now, and wanted to get going as soon as they could. "That sounds awesome! We should get going, then..." The beta then remembered the scent that the others spoke of. "Oh, and about that scent you two caught, I still haven't gotten even the slightest whiff, but, I'll be sure to keep on the tips of of my toes." West added, hoping to bring a sense of comfort to the other canines.

He inhaled deeply, then took another look around. He wasn't as used to large open areas, and was a generally observant body. He enjoyed everything, and if he didn't like something, he'd mull it over until he discovered something about it he did. Listening to his warrior made him smile, and he knew she wasn't in the least bit exaggerating. Her temper often rose, and that was at fellow pack mates. He could only imagine what she'd do to someone she had no feeling of family for. He did, however, know that he would not want to be anywhere in the vicinity. And that canine meat may be on the menu. As barbaric as it may sound, food is food, and the Great Spirit doesn't agree wasting of any resource. He found himself staring at West as she spoke. Something about him seemed different, though, he wasn't sure what.
West had definitely perked up when Shade had mentioned food, even more so when he mentioned swimming. He'd always thought West would prefer to be alone in the Grove than get his coat muddied. Sure, he did always smell...weird...but he never neglected hygiene. It was just the way he smelt. His growling stomach only reminded him of his own hunger, and he soon couldn't keep himself quiet. A red blush stained his cheeks--which could barely be seen in the night through his dark grey fur, but he felt it--and he smiled nervously. He began walking to the rest of the pack, swatting his tail as a signal for West and Shard to tag along. Aside from the new wolf, many scents filled the open air. Aromas of deer, raccoon, rabbit, even a fox or two. "Mmmm... I can't wait to have my mouth on one of these fine creatures.." Instinct kicked in, naturally, and thoughts of food flooded his mind. He knew in just a matter of time, he'd be full and happy.
When he finally reached them, he went to speak, but opening his mouth only brought out an angered yelp. "Ngyahhhrr!" The fleas had returned, not that they'd ever left. But nonetheless, they'd made their presence known. He went to smooth the feeling with his mouth, but it was just out of reach. Right on the center of his ebony back. He tore at it, trying to grab it with his mouth, but his attempts failed. It was a lost cause. He just grabbed the ground tightly in his front paws and tried to fight the itch with his mind. His ears hung low in defeat. "..stupid bugs..."

As silence had fallen upon them once again, the white coat took this opportunity to admire the open area around them, though, he later came to find that his gaze held somewhat of a fascination for the stars above. Maybe it was just a bit of a sentimental thing for him? Since he and his mother would always gaze at stars when he was a young one. They'd pick out the constellations and even sometimes make up their own little names for the formations of stars that had never been privileged with a title of their own. Once again, West had become lost in a world of his own, staring mindlessly into the heavens. The sound of their warrior's speech brought him back, and his attention shifted to her for a bit, glancing over at Shade every so often to give him a playful wink or offer a silly smile for no reason other than the fact that he adored the beast of a wolf. He knew as well as any of the others that she took great pride in serving as the pack's warrior. He also knew that she did a phenomenal job as well. Though, a bit of worry still began to settle in as scenarios in which they found themselves caught in a fight began to flutter throughout his cognitive. Even if they did win, there was no guarantee that any would leave unscathed... Actually, it was the exact opposite. Just about every wolf carries a sense of pride, and when someone attempts to strip them of that, well, things can get very, very messy, so, naturally, regardless of the disparity in strength between the clashing parties, damage was always dealt to both sides. He wouldn't worry too much, but for now, West would keep his guard up.
When everything had finally quieted down, the pallid canine caught ear of a growling belly that for once wasn't his own, and he almost-immediately turned to look at Shade. The shaky smile struck him as amusing, and he then gave a light chuckle before standing and following along at their alpha's signal. While behind, it was as thought West had devolved into a yearling, unable to keep himself from playfully watching as the fluffy appendage swayed from side-to-side. A part of him wanted so badly to lurch forward and treat the tail as prey; while being sure not to harm Shade, of course. However, he suppressed the urge and went about business as normal. Scents of actual prey began to fill his nostrils, and a warmth kindled within the depths of his wanting belly. Listening to Shade speak caused saliva to rapidly fill his muzzle, and he quickly gulped the fluids sown before he began to drool. "Gah, you're making me even hungrier than I already am!" West whined, throwing a playful tantrum by allowing his tail to thrash about, lifting his front legs from the ground to assume a standing position, only to fall back into place and repeat the process a few times over. Oddly, the snowy male was more playful today.
Having finally come upon their fellow pack mates, West observed as Shade underwent another onslaught lead by the tiny black bugs that decided to make home in his dark coat and once again had to laugh a bit. "Shade, these bugs really don't like you much at all, do they?" He teased while making his way over towards the large, sable male. The alabaster hound watched for a moment to get a good idea of where exactly Shade was itching. Once having acquired his mark, West drove his muzzle into the hound's back and began to gnaw at the clumps of skin and fur, hoping to aid in alleviating his itches.

Nothingness. That was all there seemed to be. The air was full of nothingness, just a deafening silence that seemed to expand, shoving itself into every notch in every tree until there was no air left and the forest was made a tomb. Nothingness blanketed the ground and the trees and the sky in snow, the bone-like ice stopping the river in time, everything blurred to the point where one couldn't be sure there had ever been anything to begin with. The only incongruity in this achromatic wonderland, two shining drops of blue. What a marvel they seemed, simply existing, a brief break in the all-encompassing whiteness. Only when they began to move, this pair of startling orbs, cutting through the colorless world, did it become apparent that they were, indeed, attached to something. Namely, the face of a young Arctic she-wolf, the silver dusting her muzzle hidden under the thin layer of snow that coated her, the snowflakes sticking to her thick pelt like burrs.
A single, hesitant step. Another. A few more. The river does not falter. Neither does the wolf. Soon, she is dashing across the ice, wind combing the snow from her feathery fur. Her eyes are aglow with excitement as her paws thunder across the pseudo ground, drumming out a steady rhythm that reverberates through her bones, the beat of her heart falling in time with the vibrations. Soon she is panting, the oxygen sucked from her lungs, but she does not stop. Even after the pounding in her bones and her paws stops, she still whizzes across the ice, with no traction, no friction left to stop her. But the river stops her all the same as a resounding crack echoes across the landscape, ringing quite audibly across several miles in any direction. All her common sense lost in the exhilarating joy of uncharacteristic reckless abandon, she has run too far. The climate of wolf valley is a fickle beast, the weather and general climate varying amazingly between the territories. She has come all the way from the barren Frozen Forest, which is in a near constant state of being frozen, to the beginning the Gray's territory, a much warmer hotspot for wildlife. Here, the river is nearly thawed, and in the near distance one can see where the ice ends and the river continues to flow. A few more miles and there isn't a trace of snow or ice to be seen, the air only chilled in comparison to the freezing temperatures of Clarity Peak. The sounds of birds rings through the air, signs of other animal life scattered throughout the area. The wolf doesn't notice any of this. Her senses are overwhelmed. Her body goes into shock. Her fur is suddenly several pounds heavier.
Nocte is drowning.

In the fleeting moment in which there was a lull in the interactions between the wolves, Shard became abruptly aware of the majesty of their surroundings. Most notably the infinite abyss that loomed over them, interrupted sporadically by tiny flecks of incandescence. The moon had completed a sizable chunk of its ascent in the heavens and the absence of cloud meant that its eerie luminance beamed more splendidly than usual. Its glare illuminated every strand of fur upon the she-wolf's pelt, causing her to appear to radiate with moonlight, almost as if she herself were a goddess on earth. Her chiseled head turned upwards and a plethora of dazzling stars reflected wondrously in the depths of her misty irises. This night would have seemed so serene, had it not been disturbed by the presence of foreign wolves.
In the corner of her vision, she noticed the signal of her superior and, drawn from her reverie once more, she bounded after him, her gait imitating the elegance of a snow leopard. It took little effort now to perceive the fragrance of much potential prey. Shard ignored her alpha's speech, focused intently on their present mission, for her steely resolve would not waiver until she felt the satisfying rush of the tepid blood of her victim whirling through her eager fangs. The sudden, unceremonious outcry of Shade startled her temporarily. Recovering hastily, a gruff grunt of frustration rose from the pit of her chest cavity, his exclamation had surely alarmed any potential meal that had been in the vicinity.
Averting her attention to the sky for a second time, she was captivated by the pallid, pockmarked moon. The primitive instinct to howl surged in the depths of her throat and she gave in to it once more. This howl was very different from the former, it wasn't particularly low or high, but instead rather melodic, almost religious, as if it were her own personal tribute to the moon. Once the very last note of her song had passed through her jaws, she addressed her alpha and pack-mate."Return home and allow West to cure you, if the irritation is too much for you to bear. I am capable of carrying out this hunt alone." Shard's tone was sincere and somewhat sympathetic. Although she would never admit it, it was now rather lucid to see that Shade and his fleas would be a hindrance to their hunt unless they were promptly dealt with. They certainly didn't have the moonlight left to carry on at this pace for the remainder of the night.Addressed: Shade, West, all wolves (indirectly via howl).

In the depth of the night, beneath the vibrant reflection of the moon, Ghost curiously followed the distant sound of howls, away from her new found home, and into the an unknown territory to her; Gray Lake. After shaking the snow that had formed tuffs on her back, she carefully padded in, trying to keep a keen eye on her surroundings. Her paws slowly grew accustomed to the newly found gravel and rocks beneath her pads as she stalked stealthily near a gathering of wolves, who appeared to be an unfamiliar party. Rather not being seen, she slunk around the group, daring not to make eyes, more importantly, contact. She refused to let her rare curiousity get to her this time. Continuously though, she glanced over, hoping to be unaware. This attempt, however, seemed like an impractical illusion, her white coat shared the vibrant shine of the moon above. Stepping before the lake, she glanced out, across the clear water, glaring at the island in the middle of it, down into it, watching her swirled reflection against the her swirling reflection before the shimmering moon light, their colours were nearly identical. Her fur, once more, was matted and untamed. She sniffed in disgust, and carefully worked on grooming herself.

First himself, then West, now Shard. All three of the had gazed into the only majesty that was the nighttime sky. A parallel universe, an ever-changing piece of art, was the cloudless sphere. The bright silver light of the moon illuminated everything, and almost eerily, reflected from the constantly maneuvering water's surface. All of a sudden, Shade felt as if he were being watched; not the same sensation as if he were being observed by a close friend, but the less inviting sort. The kind you could feel inside of your bones, nagging at your mind. That type of feeling.
He'd almost forgotten to answer his fellow pack mates--again. He turned to Shard, knowing exactly why she gave him an excuse, but for some reason, he was too excited to return into the forest right then. In addition, the walk back through the woods alone would do him in. Especially with the almost hopeless sensation that was surging through his body. "You can say it...I know why you think I should leave, and you're probably right. If you think it'd be best, West and I could remain here, by the lakeside. If I were you, I'd head up to where the river meets the lake, the animals should be returning to the forest now that winter has ended. I'm sure there'll be some traffic. Just don't go in the forest. As you know, it is where our freedom ends. It's been passed for many generations the story of the Frostwind pack, though, those are just legends I'm sure. I think you should be more worried about the rivers. Don't walk on them, you could fall through. Moon Goddess knows you'd freeze your tail right off."
Shade then turned to West. "I think they like me a little too much. They eating me for crying out loud. I'm pretty positive I don't even taste good." Caught off-guard by his long-time friend, his coat flinched, though, it stopped immediately after West had begun to liberate him from the menacing itches. His leg thumped on the ground, and his tongue lolled out to the side. He hadn't a care in the world for that moment. When West had stopped, he could feel the cold air on his back where the white wolf had drenched him in thick drool. He couldn't blame him. The hunger mixed with all of the scents had made him salivate excessively as well. "Th-thanks West."
Just then, the feeling intensified. He could've sworn he'd heard movement. He definitely smelt somebody in their presence. He turned his head to scan in all directions. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Oddly enough, not even the grass swayed in the wind. It appeared as if the world around them had stopped. If you were to touch a blade of grass, it would either crumble into dust, or remain standing; rock hard. Cold. "Guys...I feel a little uneasy..did we eat something earlier? It's probably just hunger. I'm almost positive." Though he said that, he meant not a word of it. He knew something had their eyes on him. On all of them.

MENTIONED: Nocte and Shard | ADDRESSED: -
Red heard a howl... Her ears turned immediately, facing the direction of where the sound came from and her head and eyes soon followed. She did not bother to howl along with the stranger and she simply continued to walk along the edge of the frozen water and away from her territory, her home, Frozen Forest. The black wolf would glance over her shoulder every so often, looking to see if she was being followed or if she was still very much alone on her end of the lake. So far there was no one with her still and she had been unaware of one of her pack members, a subordinate of hers, Ghost, had wandered out and was watching the other wolves.
Red Rot suddenly froze. She had just glanced over her shoulder and she spotted something, or someone one darting across the iced over water. At first, she did not quite register what she was seeing but upon taking a double take with a second glance she noticed she was not simply seeing or imagining things. That was certainly a wolf running across the frozen water. The black wolf turned around on her toes and watched this canine in the distance as it ran along without seemingly a care or worry in the world about its safety. Red Rot watched until the wolf was out of sight. Once her fire colored eyes could no longer see the canine in the distance she sighed quietly and rolled her eyes. The black wolf then began to turn away but then froze. She heard something. A cracking sound... The sound of the ice cracking. It startled Red Rot, to be honest. It was a loud sound and she stiffened upon hearing it. The wolf she had been watching had fallen in but Red Rot was not entirely sure that is what that sound meant but the thought had crossed her mind, for a moment. She turned back around and stared at the water for a moment, debating on investigating or not.
"Oh for fucks sake." Red Rot growled under her breathe before darting across the land, following the edge of the lake. Her paws hit he ground hard as she sprinted along in a hurry to see if the individual had fallen in or not. At first she saw no signs but as she began to get further away from Frozen Forest and followed the river she was sure she had either gone too far or maybe she had missed something along the way. Where was that wolf? Red Rot was hoping whoever it had been that they were safe but she didn't want to stop searching until she was sure there was no one was drowning in this water.
(ooc: Such a crap post. Excuse my french. But anyway, there's a post and I left it open for anyone to join Red Rot in search of Nocte :3

Shard's broad ears flattened against her skull as she realised that her alpha had deduced her reasoning for suggesting that he return home; her eyes widened apologetically and her pupils dilated, resulting in the best rendition of a puppy face that it was possible for the fearsome warrior to create. Though Shade did not seem in the least bit offended and proposition consoled her somewhat, pangs of guilt still dwelled in the pit of her empty stomach. His proposal appealed to her greatly and she waited in a steely silence until he had finished addressing her. Shade's concern and care for her touched her profoundly. Casting him a blazing, ardent look, with all the ferocity and passion of the courageous lioness that resided in the most revered chambers of her soul, she spoke only thus:"If you need me, howl." Her words were laced with meaning, they had all sensed the possible threat of nearby wolves.
Perhaps her paranoia had dissipated, or perhaps she had simply become accustomed to it. Either way, the she-wolf did not experience that same crawling sensation that Shade did, she no longer felt like her every move was being scrutinised. Indeed, she did not linger with her pack mates, nor hear the rest of their conversation, instead she immediately embarked on her mission to obtain prey. Turning her furred back on her pack mates, she began her long trek along the shore of the lake. All the while she focused on the scents of her companions, gradually growing weaker with each resounding thud of her immense paws against the earth.
By the time the ashen beast had reached the place in which the level waters of the Gray Lake rushed out from an immense, powerful river. These waters were a far cry from the tranquility of the lake, here the liquid seemed void of all light and it foamed and churned and hissed like an irate snake. Stupefied momentarily by the terrifying, vast capabilities of water, the she-wolf pressed onwards. Upon stumbling upon a fork in the river, she wavered, surely she had come far enough that there would be an abundance of prey somewhere in her proximity? The scent of her comrades now a recent memory, Shard breathed in a lungful of the bracing air. As the fragrances and odours carried by the wind were sucked into her nasal cavity and interpreted, every muscle in her body tensed. Wolves.
Shade's word of caution flooded back to her as she recalled tales of the so-called 'Frostwind' pack. The she-wolf's heart began to thump frantically against her torso, so erratically that she feared it might rip itself out of her chest. Trepidation, fear and adrenaline coursed through her veins, she could no longer hear anything but the deafening noise of her own heartbeat in her ears. No. I am a tireless warrior, unmatched in strength. I do not fear petty foreign beasts. With these thoughts Shard fortified her mind. However, before she could act much further, the ear-piercing crack of ice splitting sliced through the air like a javelin. Alarmed, but unperturbed, the wolf strained her ears to listen, the thump of her heart fading as a nonchalance clutched her.
Her curiosity piqued, she broke into a sprint, bounding upstream, alongside the murky waters. Her practiced, toned muscles rippled methodically beneath her slate grey pelt, once more imitating the majestic stride of a snow leopard. Dense fur covering her nape billowed and undulated as she scampered along the riverbank, almost like the thick ruff that a lioness might possess. With each pace she drove her paws energetically against the compressed soil, propelling her lithe bulk forwards. Little time had passed when at last her pupils set sights upon another creature, whose actions gave the impression that she was searching for something- or someone. Abruptly halting, Shard skidded slightly, changing course in the direction of this wolf instead.
Shard closed the distance between the two wolves, now able to get a better look at her. Somewhat awestruck, the she-wolf openly admired this new stranger; her sleek, feminine form, the manner in which her inky, colourless pelt seemed to shimmer and gleam in the moonlight. But it was the other's eyes that captivated her the most, like molten embers, kindling a roaring fire within them. "Who-" The she-wolf began tenderly, cutting herself off when she noticed suddenly an achromatic mass hurtling in their direction. The she-wolf's mind whirred wildly and time began to slow down as she pondered. At last, she noticed a point down where the river thinned slightly, there they might able to reached forwards and retrieve the wolf. "There! Quickly!" Shard barked briskly, pointing her muzzle towards where the river was shorter in width a few paces in front of them. Sprinting faster than she ever had before, the canine positioned herself on the riverbank and stretched forwards, readying herself to grab the wolf from the water.

MENTIONED: Nocte and Shard | ADDRESSED: Nocte and Shard
Red wasn't sure she was going in the right direction. Could she have even been safe to assume that maybe that wolf hadn't fallen in? The black canines head was filled with many thoughts, many debates. Should she turn back around and go on her merry way or should she continue to try and make sure no one had fallen in? Red Rot was torn. She was wasting her time if she ended up not finding anyone and she knew that would surely set of her short fuse. But something within the black wolf continued to urge and push her onward to continue her search along the riverbank looking for any signs of another living creature within the running water. Her fierce fiery colored eyes scanned the waters surface constantly but it was not within the water that she found another living being... It was on dry ground that her eyes averted to when she heard steps.
She stopped in her tracks, lifting her head up high and looking in the direction of where she heard the thuds of what sounded like someone approaching. Her ears did not lie to her as she soon settled her molten lava colored gaze on another wolf that was closing the distance between them. On one side of her muzzle her lip raised slightly, exposing her rather long ivory canines and she narrowed her eyes. She did not growl but she did focus on this wolf, trying to better examine them. A female and not one that she had ever seen before. The black she-wolf took one step forward in the slate grey females direction before pausing and staring the stranger down. She wasn't purposely trying to make her uncomfortable, but simply the Frostwind Alpha was trying to figure this she-wolf out, trying to figure out where she may have come from.
Red Rot's tail began to raise behind her, the need to exercise her dominance was instinctual around others but she did not become aggressive with this stranger, yet. She stood still, captivated, to say the least, but she was doing her best not to let herself get too distracted even while she stared into this she-wolf's olive green eyes. It was her voice that distracted the black wolf though in the end, her ears standing tall on her head as she listened to the slate grey wolf begin to speak but only to cut herself off.
The black she-wolf turned her head immediately, looking to see what the other she-wolf saw and she noticed a wolf in the water being carried along. Her eyes widened, her body tensed as she stood up straight and was unsure of what to do until the other female barked at her. Red Rot looked back at her and noticed she was pointing towards an area of the river where it was shorter in width. She understood. But what she did not understand was why was she about to listen to this complete stranger? Red Rot was confused but she did not put up a fight, surprisingly, and she decided to cooperate for the sake of saving anothers life.
She darted after the slate grey female, following her and then positioning herself a couple of feet away and further down. She stepped further into the water, trying to get as far in as possible without losing her balance and being carried away as well. If the other female couldn't catch this wolf then Red Rot would be there to hopefully catch them just a little ways down the river where she was standing and readying herself. "You better bite down hard." The black she-wolf suddenly growled to the other female, her voice lacking much emotion but yet had a unique feminine deep tone to it nonetheless.
